In this set of ink and gouache drawings, I explore my cultural and historical locators as a Northern, working class Catholic woman. I am obsessed with stories and narrative inquiry. I use these
methodologies to explore the rich and complex visual markers inherent in the
traditions and rituals of my culture. I depict here the statuary, costumes, votives, artefacts and
domestic rituals of a life lived in faith. I am an object-maker; trained as a
potter, as such I aim to imbue the subjects of my drawings with the weight of this world and a hint of the next.

University of Helsinki: Dream Cultures;
In this conference, we want to focus instead on the culture of dreams and dreaming in any geographical location or historical period. Dreaming has often been seen as a universal phenomenon, but dream narratives, meanings given to dreams and even the content of dreams are culturally and historically contingent. The conference will offer a multidisciplinary arena for discussing how dreams and nightmares have been understood and conceptualized in various historical and cultural contexts.
